OUR VISION

One person can make a difference, one voice can make a difference, one book can make a difference, but many can make an even bigger impact.

With the Compassionate Mind Collaborative, our intention is to bring together professionals who have diverse talents and interests, but who also share a common core of fierce compassion.

We do this by offering the following services, programs, and community:

WHY COMPASSION & Writing?

We see a world that is in need of healing. Bringing compassion into your life for yourself and for others takes courage and wisdom. Nothing short of fierce intention, commitment, and action will suffice when we are talking about compassion. It’s a practice that requires a willingness and a motivation that must be cultivated on a daily basis. Bringing compassion into your writing practice brings it into your voice and your message as well, and your readers will feel that intention.

“A standard definition of compassion is, a sensitivity to the suffering in self and others with a commitment to try to alleviate and prevent it." — Dr. Paul Gilbert, Founder of Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT) and The Compassionate Mind Foundation, UK

Compassion is something that anyone can practice. You can bring compassion to any and every act, and everyone — including you — will be better off for it, and so will your writing. This compassionate work is at the heart of what we all do at The Compassionate Mind Collaborative. It’s layered into every part of the process and based on the principles of Compassion Mind Training which has its roots in Compassion Focused Therapy. CFT is a form of evidence-based, cognitive-behavioral psychotherapy that integrates positive emotion and methods derived from Buddhist psychology. Of course, we aren’t therapists here, so we practice these compassionate mind skills and strategies with our clients during the writing and revision process.

“The science of compassion is evolving each day, as researchers, thought leaders and everyday people are furthering their exploration of mindfulness, compassion and acceptance as a path to transform the mind and pursue greater meaning and happiness.”
— Dr. Dennis Tirch & Dr. Laura Silberstien-Tirch, The Center for Compassion Focused Therapy, NYC

OUR GUIDING INTENTIONS

In coming together as the Compassionate Mind Collaborative, we have agreed…

  • To create a place of safeness, connectedness, understanding, acceptance, and support.

  • To foster unity between and among all people through mindful and compassionate practices.

  • To help people develop a greater sense of calm and ease in their lives.

  • To provide compassionate support through all stages of our processes and projects.

  • To help people share their voices with the world in a way that best suits their gifts, talents, and strengths.

  • To awaken the call within us to honor and activate our deep connection with nature and our environment.

  • To allow an opening for the wholeness of who we are, embracing the parts of us that we love as well as the parts we don’t appreciate quite as much.

  • To venture into every interaction and experience with curiosity, integrity, and kindness.

“Compassion is one of the most important declarations of strength and courage known to humanity. It is difficult and powerful, infectious and influential. It is a universally recognised motivation with the ability to change the world.”
